2015 Petit Lot Chenin Blanc | Cellar Release

50 cases produced

Inspired by the great wines of the Loire Valley this Chenin Blanc celebrates the unrivalled versatility of this stunning grape. This wine comes from the first vines planted on the property in 1996. The soil consists of fractured laterite over clay and is naturally high in minerals. Planted with a North South orientation, the resultant fruit was shaded allowing for greater retention of mineral characters and natural acid. Handpicked at first light and chilled down prior to pressing. The grapes were whole bunch pressed with only the free run juice being retained and transferred to 2-year-old French oak barriques indigenous ferment and maturation on lees for 11 months, following bottling the wines has been bottle aged for 6 years. A beautiful golden hue representing the age of this wine. The nose is laden with rich stone fruit, pear and marri blossom, while the incredibly textured palate traverses through lemongrass, grapefruit, quince, sea salt and flint beautifully complimented by subtle oak derived characters and linear minerality. The finish is long with an intrinsic natural acid backbone to reveal a wine with both texture and precision. This wine is very fresh and alive with the ability to cellar for another 10 years.
